The 2023 VAMA Scholarship recognizes student excellence in art, photography, illustration, and design. The scholarship is open to all students who explore creative practices and produce work as part of their studies at Los Angeles City College, via any course offered by the Visual And Media Arts Department. Work submitted by scholarship applicants are judged on artistic and creative merit by the faculty of the Visual and Media Arts Department. Students who are awarded the VAMA Scholarship have their work exhibited in the VAMA Scholarship Show at VAMA Gallery.
The scholarship application requires a submission of work in the form of a portfolio. VAMA is offering workshops for all applicants who seek support or assistance in the creation of a portfolios in support of their scholarship applications. All workshops are held on Zoom. Please review the workshop schedule on this page and attend as many workshops as needed. Workshops will guide applicants through the process of organizing your art work into online portfolios that are optimized for the scholarship application judging conducted by VAMA faculty. For best results, applicants should show up to the workshop with portfolio contents already selected and evidence of work such as photographs or movies already in a digital format. The workshops are organized to guide applicants through the necessary steps to organize an online portfolio presentation. Successful participation in the portfolio workshops results in a portfolio URL link that the applicant can submit as part of the scholarship application.
